You won't get the same old boring sandwiches at Jenicca's

By Lisa Hornung

Sometimes, you just want a sandwich for lunch. But you don't want just any old sandwich with boring bread. Hell, you can make that yourself.

At Jenicca's, you can get that sandwich, but it's a lot better than that soggy mess you brought to work with you.

A friend and I recently visited for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. We ordered the Con Queso ($5.50) for an appetizer, which looked like your basic Velveeta blend. It had some extra spices and black beans mixed in, and it was delicious. It was poured over tortilla chips and served with salsa.

I had the chicken parmesan sandwich ($7.50) which was a piece of grilled chicken breast, mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce on toasted bread. I loved it. I had the broccoli crunch on the side, which was a broccoli salad with raisins, sunflower seeds and ranch dressing. I could have done without the raisins, but it was still really good.

My friend had the turkey and provolone panini ($5.95), which was served on foccacia bread. He said the bread is what makes the sandwich. He ordered the ziti pasta salad on the side, and he liked that, too.

The menu has more than sandwiches -- there are salads and appetizers, along with coffee, desserts and plenty of wine and beer. The décor is sleek and modern, with art on the walls.

Jenicca's is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; 7 a.m. to midnight Thursday through Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
